What does it mean to let go of your mind?

 

The phrase: “let go of your mind” means releasing efforts to contain, evade or hide your mind’s contents. By doing this, thoughts and emotions gain full freedom of movement. This relaxation gives them the space to reveal themselves. In this open, aware state of being, solutions become clear as thoughts arrive, provide insight, then leave in their own time.

The brain’s purpose is to help you survive. As a result, it drives you to avoid anything that presents a threat to your life or wellbeing. This instinct is essential, but in an imbalanced state, it disrupts the mind. Here, unwanted thoughts arise, but your refusal to face them keeps their energy in place. Witness this when you react to unwanted thoughts. Do you try to block them or distract yourself as they arrive? If you do, you’re using large amounts of energy to control the mind. This imbalanced reaction often takes place without you realising. In short, it’s the brain trying to fulfil its purpose to help you survive.

By growing aware of how the brain avoids discomfort, it’s easier to let go of its influence. The reason is that you now have the space to witness its movements – without getting dragged into their momentum. In time, this awareness expands and flows into your life. You can then relax efforts toward the mind’s thoughts and allow them to voice themselves. In the early stages of doing this, troublesome thoughts rise to your attention. When this happens, allow them to be. In doing so, you’re letting go of their hold. This sequence becomes easier once you notice and understand the brain’s influence.

On balance, when you stop trying to solve the mind’s problems, its solutions become obvious. Here, unwanted thoughts arrive and leave with no effort from you.

What happens if your mind builds up too much thought material?

 

If the mind gathers excess thought material, it doesn’t wish to release such matter. The brain then believes its contents and dislikes the idea of letting go of them. Learn why this happens and you move through the mind’s resistance with ease. Here, there is no concern over its fears, regrets, or content.

In a state of imbalance, you grow attached to thoughts and worry about losing them. The mind responds this way when its contents gather, then occupy most of your inner space. It’s then easy to mistake thoughts, fears and memories for who you are. On that account, you don’t wish to let them go. To overcome this fear of identity loss, witness it and allow its energy to fade. Soon you realise you’re not just a bundle of stories filled with fear, guilt, and pain. Your true self is the space that’s aware of these thoughts and emotions. It’s a balanced state that doesn’t attach itself to your mind’s contents and has no fear of losing them.

Thoughts are separate beings with their own drive to live. They know they cannot survive once you relax and grow wise to their presence. For this reason, each one objects to your attempts to release them. Witness this by noting these thoughts.

Notice these thoughts and their fears of you letting go of them. When they occur, let them have their voice. This meditation helps you realise the unchanging space where such thoughts live. From here, you move through the phase of letting go with ease. As this happens, the mind’s fears, regrets and content no longer concern you.

As you relax the mind, its thoughts, desires and troubles come to your attention. By learning their purpose and how to manage them, they hold less space in your being. From here, life’s energy transforms your mind and provides the support you need. The result is a life of balance and minimal stress.

The mind is a stream of awareness unique to you. The source of its intellect is its union with life’s limitless energy. This link fades if your mind’s drive for control takes too much of its space. To notice this, relax all efforts against thoughts. When doing this, how do you feel? At first, you sense fear because the mind wants to stay in control. This desire drives it to fight against anything that threatens its place. Despite this, your mind’s conditioning cannot match the power of life’s intellect. Allow its energy to flow into thoughts and watch them transform. Soon, your mind reconnects with life and knows itself as a unique stream of awareness.

The forced efforts you make against your mind oppose life’s direction. To illustrate this, imagine a fish trying to swim against a river’s current. Soon, the fish tires and yields to the water’s movement. From there, the river’s power backs its movements. Here, the fish can choose any exit stream in the water’s direction. In this example, the river is life energy, and the fish represents your mind. For both to work together, you must release forced efforts against them. By relaxing the mind this way, life’s brilliance and energy support your movements. You can then steer the course of living with minimal stress.

Why is it hard to let go of the mind?

 

It’s hard to let go of your mind because its inner structures and thoughts wish to survive. If these beings sense a threat, they aim to trick you into following them. Grow wise to such ploys, and your awareness expands. The mind then lets go of its contents with less effort. This release balances thoughts and ends mental suffering.

Your struggles against the mind cause it more trouble. Are its thoughts enemies to fight? If you think so, it’s common to ‘try to stop trying’. Here, it’s easy to become addicted to the efforts you make against thoughts. Don’t worry if you see this action – noticing and leaving it alone is enough. By doing so, you make sure that your attention doesn’t catch itself in a web of thoughts. It’s normal to fall into old thinking habits on occasion. Accept that the mind conditioned itself this way over several months. In a similar manner, it takes a short while to reprogram. Soon, the struggles against the mind end and it stops being your enemy.

The first stage of growing aware of your mind requires a minor effort to learn how thoughts work. When you have this awareness, it’s time to put aside your input. In other words, don’t keep trying to become more aware. Such efforts can become ways to pursue thoughts or more techniques. These actions are your mind tricking you into following its contents, thus preventing its transformation. Don’t fall for its ploys, instead witness your mind’s contents, and leave them alone. This approach needs brief, mindful input, while your awareness separates itself from thoughts.

After one or two months of mindful practice, stop trying to become aware of the mind’s tricks. From here, relax and allow life’s genius to balance your mind and end mental suffering.

In a relaxed state, what drives your actions and decisions?

 

In a relaxed state, your actions come from a space of inspiration, rather than force or imbalance. Here, you’re patient and open to life’s wisdom. This mindset allows you to work with ease, then rest without becoming too inactive or tired. As a result, you act in an aligned manner and allow results to happen at the correct time. By knowing this, your mind relaxes as it learns how daily tasks have life’s wisdom behind them.

After several months of allowing the mind to settle, you sense space for new ideas and insight. For example, the vision to start a new relationship. Such inspiration comes without effort into your mind. From there, you can choose what ideas to follow. In either case, you’re happy to explore, make mistakes and learn new lessons. Visions continue to arrive, and you accept them, but work from a mindset of wisdom. Here, you become an honest and independent person, while respecting others and the world. This way of life comes through allowing your mind ample space to settle. It can then release anything that blocks insight.

By becoming more connected with life, you no longer sense the urge to fight against it. In effect, routine jobs, plans, and leisure become joyful. Fear, worry, guilt and despair cease to drive your actions. Instead, you move from a place of balance and poise. These motives flow into the results of each decision you make. In addition, goals soon manifest with ease – if they align with life’s direction. On this account, you become a light of wellness with full faith in life and your actions. The result is a stable life of balance, health, and harmony. These qualities flow into every task, action, and decision you make.

As awareness of the mind expands, all efforts release, you then let go and are privy to the wisdom of life.

Is letting go a technique?

 

The art of letting go isn’t a technique. View it as an open state that allows your mind the freedom to realign. If you make it into a practice, it’s easy to miss its purpose. In short, techniques involve and subdue the mind rather than freeing you from it. Such forces oppose the mind’s movement and are methods of control. The art of letting go means accepting the mind by noting its contents and leaving them to be. They don’t need any further control, analysis, practice, or technique.

If the mind is full of contents, imbalance, and past momentum, it’s not ready to help you. Here, your efforts to fix and reason with thoughts create more thinking. These actions lead to further doubts and mental noise. In this state, you often ask, ‘how do I let go’? Instead of striving to figure out an answer, allow your mind to have this question – without trying to solve it. In time, your awareness grows and the mind’s momentum reduces. This ‘letting go’ happens when you release your efforts to answer, control, or remove specific thoughts. The mind then helps you as its contents balance and solutions become obvious.

The brain has a curious nature. For this reason, it wants to explore thoughts instead of letting go of them. It’s fine to ask questions and learn, but these actions shouldn’t become methods to avoid unwanted thoughts. In a state of imbalance, they can catch you in a trap of constant questioning and answering. Don’t keep seeking reassurance and be fine with not knowing. The true answers in life come as you stop your intense search for them. In contrast, they arise when you let go of mind-based approaches.
